Avezzano – The Ambientiamoci Festival Opens with Emotion and Awareness
The Ambientiamoci Festival has officially begun in Avezzano, launching with a powerful sense of emotion and civic awareness. This annual event brings together citizens, institutions, and youth organizations around the core themes of sustainability and civic responsibility.
Kicking off this year’s edition was the theatrical performance Il Sindaco Pescatore (“The Fisherman Mayor”), staged at the Teatro dei Marsi. Actor Ettore Bassi delivered a moving portrayal of Angelo Vassallo, the mayor of Pollica who was murdered in 2010 for his courageous stand against organized crime and his dedication to environmental protection.
Joining Bassi on stage were the young performers from the Teatranti tra tanti company, who supported the narrative with strength and authenticity. Choosing to open the festival with this performance sent a powerful message: to honor a symbolic figure of ethical and environmental commitment, and to highlight the essential role of courage and integrity in public life.
The youth of G&SHub were also actively involved in organizing the evening, taking care of ticketing operations and distributing flyers with information about our helpdesk initiative. Some of us also supported entrance management and guest reception with enthusiasm and a strong sense of responsibility.
Before the show began, following the institutional greetings, the audience was introduced to the Green & Social Hub info desk — a space designed to offer listening, support, and guidance to young people in the area. It was a meaningful opportunity to share our mission and to engage in dialogue with the community.
The opening of the Ambientiamoci Festival thus became a true occasion for growth and collective participation — a moment where art, remembrance, and youth engagement came together to deliver a shared and powerful message: changing the world is possible, starting with small actions and the courage to make the right choices.
