Project Description
On May 21st, in a packed city council hall, the City of Avezzano officially launched the second edition of “Ambientiamoci”, the environmental awareness initiative created by the local Department of the Environment. The event coincided with World Bee Day, a fitting backdrop for a program that places nature and sustainability at the heart of everyday life.
A Festival to Raise Awareness, Innovate, and Involve the Community
City Councillor Maria Antonietta Dominici announced the return of the initiative, running from May 23rd to June 1st, stating that “green will be the dominant color.” More than just a schedule of events, “Ambientiamoci” is a collaborative effort that combines education, prevention, art, and technology to promote eco-conscious lifestyles and a sustainable culture.
A Full Program: Art, Science, Technology, and Youth in the Spotlight
The agenda includes a wide range of activities:

May 23–25: “Agrotechnical Days” hosted by the Serpieri Institute, focusing on innovation in agri-food production.

May 26–27: Theatrical performance “Il Sindaco Pescatore” with actor Ettore Bassi and the “Teatranti Tra Tanti” company, honoring the legacy of Mayor Angelo Vassallo. On May 27, students will also present and be awarded for their comic project “Nel segno di Angelo”, created with the Avezzano Comic Art School.

May 27–28: Environmental and energy-themed conferences, including expert contributions from Italy’s environmental and health protection units (NAS and NOE) and Arap Abruzzo.

May 28: Opening of the Reuse Center on Via Generale Rubeo, in collaboration with Tekneko.

May 29: Scientific conference “CRUA = CURA” with contributions from the Institute for Experimental Zooprophylaxis and the CRUA research center.

May 30: Open-air talk in Piazza Risorgimento with young developers Matteo Morvillo and Amedeo Valestra, creators of the AI-powered anti-waste app “Cucinalo,” followed by the “Green Night,” featuring eco-projects from local high schools.

June 1: Family-friendly Environment Festival at Dinopark with the “Avezzano Bimbi” team and a special appearance by Marsio, a digital mascot created by graphic design students from the Galilei-Bellisario institute.
To wrap up the program, an extra event is planned for June 14th: “A Move for the Environment – Second Edition”, a chess and checkers tournament in Piazza del Mercato hosted by the Circolo Dama Avezzano.
The Heart of the Project
“Ambientiamoci” is a shared effort that brings together institutions, schools, businesses, and citizens. A key component is the European “Green & Social Hub” project, which promotes an inclusive ecological transition by integrating environmental and social policies.
As Councillor Dominici stated, “Ambientiamoci is more than just better waste sorting. It’s a new and participatory way to live our city and environment.” This second edition is set to make a lasting impact on the minds and hearts of the community.
